Stakeholders of the PDP from Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia are planning to suspend one of their members, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, who is challenging Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the courts.
The PDP chieftains, led by the state chairman of the party, Chief Johnson Oniugbo, said Ogah and his supporters would be punished for not exhausting internal mechanisms of the party to seek redress.
Leader of the delegation from Umuahia North, Professor Joshua Chimgoziere Ogbonnaya, who stated this at the banquet hall of the government house, in Umuahia, during a solidarity visit to Governor Ikpeazu, said guidelines of the PDP would be used to punish erring members.
He noted that the chieftains were at the government house to distance themselves from the clamour for Ogah to be sworn in as governor, saying the call was diversionary and rebellious.
He added that though the agitators took part in the party primary, they should have petitioned the party over their grievances.
“We would sanction them within the limits of the constitution of the PDP,” he said.
Responding, Governor Ikpeazu said: “Though there are renegades, there is no division in the PDP in Abia State.”
He said the agitations by Ogah and Barrister Friday Nwosu, another PDP aspirant who wanted to be sworn in as governor, “were not for justice and equity upon which their founding fathers worked for the creation of Abia State.”
