Although Portugal beat France to lift the Euro 2016 trophy, one of the talking points was a challenge by Dmitri Payet on Cristiano Ronaldo which forced the Portugese captain to come off.
Ronaldo came off in the 24th minute and despite the absence of their captain, Portugal held firm to deny Les Blues the trophy.
Speaking after the match, West Ham forward, Payet said that he did not intend to injure Ronaldo. “No, it was a challenge, that’s all, period,” said the West Ham man. “I regained the possession and if I hurt him it was not intentional. “It’s not in my nature to be a bad guy on the pitch. There is no question about it.”
