Three tourists caused outrage after they stripped down to their bikinis and cooled off in a 400-year-old fountain to escape the summer heat.
The women splashed about in the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola in Rome, leaving locals fuming at the disrespect for their 17th century monument.Swimming or washing in the fountain, which was built in 1612 to celebrate the restoration of an aqueduct, carries a €200 fine, Mailonline reports.
The girls were caught taking their summer-splash by an onlooker who quickly shared a photo on social media.It is not clear how long they were in the fountain for or if they were punished for their actions.
