Android 7.0 Nougat might be released in a few days
If you happen to rock a Nexus device that’s still eligible to receive major Android updates, then you’re going to like the following rumor. Google is supposedly getting ready to release the final Android 7.0 Nougat build in the next days.
The news comes from accurate leaker Evan Blass.
“Android 7.0 releases next month, with the 8/5 security patch,” he said on Twitter. “Sorry, Nexus 5 owners, no Nougat for you.”
The final Nougat release will be available on every Nexus device that can run any of the beta preview releases of Android 7.0. So it’s not a surprise to hear that the “old” Nexus 5 isn’t eligible for Nougat . We already knew this was bound to happen.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will receive the final Nougat build. In fact, a Nexus 6P owner who was looking to downgrade back to Marshmallow from an Android N preview version received by mistake a confidential Android N update that may have been intended to hit devices belonging to Google employees. This also seems to indicate that Google is getting close to launching the final Nougat version you’re expecting.
Even if you’re not on a Nexus device that can handle Android 7.0, it still should be great news to hear Google is changing its Android update schedule. An early August release for a new Android version should give smartphone makers more time to update their flagship devices to the latest stable Android release. One other thing to remember is that Google usually launches new Nexus hardware with each major Android update. That means this year’s Sailfish and Marlin may be just around the corner.
