One of the most popular Torrent search site, Torrentz has abruptly shut down its operations. Instead of hosting the Torrent files the site instead aggregated the same and redirected to actual Torrent sites like Piratebay.
If not anything else Torrentz is definitely nostalgic for most of us. The largest Torrent Meta-Search engine has finally called quits today and has shut down mysteriously. Pointing your
browser to Torrentz.eu will take you to the homepage but if you try searching for any Torrentz the site will display a goodbye message. Torrentz has been in the business since 2003 and although they didn’t host torrentz of their own but instead pointed out to sites like Pirate Bay.
The Torrentz has mostly been one of the best bet if one was looking out for stable Torrent and it
had a ranking system of its own, something that would help users negate through the tricky world
of Torrenting. Also, once users open the homepage this is the message they will be greeted
with “Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines,” notice the past tense?
When TorrentFreak contacted the operator of Torrentz he preferred to stay mum. The Torrentz
shutdown comes close in heels with the Kickass torrent episode, in which the founder was pinned
down for violating piracy laws. This also leaves the entire torrent community hunting for alternatives.
It was also said that Torrentz was quite diligent when it came to taking down infringing links and
maybe that’s one of the reasons for its longevity. However, this move comes as a huge sigh of relief
for RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) who had been lobbying against the site.
On the contrary, it is most likely that people on the Internet will get over this loss and find themselves yet another favourite Torrent Meta- Search engine.
